Abstract

Allogeneic bone marrow transplantation(BMT) is the only curative therapy for chronic myelogenous leukemia(CML). But a proportion of patients with chronic phase CML
receiving BMT show hematological relapses, of which are usually chronic phase, but rarely acute phase. We report a 23-year-old male patient who was diagnosed as chronic
phase of CML and had BMT from his HLA-matched sister, and relapsed into blast crisis 131 days after transplantation without the preceding chronic phase of CML. The
possible explanations for this unusual event are undetected acute phase before BMT, undetected preceding chronic phase and blastic proliferation of residual leukemic cells.
