Abstract

As the duration of survival in acute leukemia has increased, the secondary
complications and its treatment become prominent figure. Authors experienced a very
case of intussusception as a presenting feature of relapse in a 18-year-old male patient
with acute Iymphobalstic leukemia in complete remission state. The exploratormy
laparotomy revealed that the polypoid mass which was located at the terminal ileum,
initiated the intussusception. Pathologic examination disclosed the leukemic infiltration.
He recovered completely with surgical resection followed by reinduction chemotherapy.
He is on follow up with maintenance chemotherapy for 8 months after second remission.
Acute abdomen in leukemic patient, especially any suggestion of right lower quadrant
lesion, the intussusception due to intestinal infiltration of leukemic cells should be
considered as one of the differential diagnoses.
