Abstract

Background: In acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) substantial progress of chemotherapy has been made in recent years. Although there is no standard regimen for
induction treatment in adult ALL, most regimens include prednisone, vincristine, daunorubicin and asparaginase. This study is to investigate the rate of complete
remission and survival of ALL treated with those agents.
Methods: Twenty-nine adults with acute lymphocytic leukemia were treated with three-or four-drug combination as induction followed by postremission therapy between
September 1987 and June 1992.
Results: Overall complete remission(CR) rate was 72% (21/29). Median duration of CR was 8.0 months(range, 2.0-48+). And in complete responders, 3-year relapse-free
survival (RFS) by Kaplan-Meier-method and relapse rate were 29.7% and 57% (12/21) respectively.
Contusion :
Improved therapy is needed by more intensified induction and consolidation therapy because of short duration of remission and high relapse rate, though CR rate is acceptable.
