Abstract

Extranodal non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) accounts for 24∼48% of all NHLs. The gastrointestinal tract is the most common extranodal site of presentation. The stomach is the major organ involved by gastrointestinal lymphoma but appendix is exceedingly rare. In 1898, Warren reported the first case of lymphoma of appendix. Currently, there have been a total of 128 reported cases of lymphoma of appendix. Recently, we experienced a case of primary NHL of appendix. A 49-year-old man presented with the clinical appearance of acute appendicitis. Ultrasonography revealed dilatation and irregular wall thickening of appendix. Microscopic examination showed diffuse large B cell lymphoma. Six cycles of CHOP (cyclophosphamide, hydroxydaunomycin,
oncovin, prednisone) chemotherapy were performed after appendectomy. Herein, we report a case of primary NHL of appendix and review the literature.
