Abstract

Recently there has been considerable interest in acute leukemias with both myeloid and lymphoid features.
A 8-year-old girl with acute leukemia have blasts that expressed both lymphoid and myeloid markers. The morphology of the blasts is like FAB L2 but cytochemical
features such as Periodic acid-Schiff, Sudan black B and Myeloperoxidase do not meet the criteria of ALL. The wide overlap in the percentages of blasts expressing the
lymphoid marker(CD10) and myeloid marker(CDl3) indicates that most leukemic cells have both lineage markers. The leukemic cells also express the bone marrow progenitor
marker, CD34. The patient achieved remission with regimen for ALL.
We report this case as a biphenotypic leukemia with lymphoid and myeloid marker expression.
