Abstract

The authors evaluated the therapeutic efficacy of vitamin C for 21 adult patients of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. The subject was composed of 20 females and one
male from the age ranges between 17 and 72 years.
The administration of vitamin C was 2.0gm per day to the patients as both a single therapy for 4 patients and a combination therapy with other regimens for 17. Among the
total patients, five cases became complete remission(23.8%), two cases were partial remission(9.5%), three cases obtained sustainable therapeutic status of previous
regimen(14.2%), and eleven cases were nonresponders(52.4%). However, two out of 4 cases of single therapy group showed complete remission (50.0%). The periods from start of medication to effective response were varied from 1 week to 6 months. There were no remarkable side reactions of vitamin C therapy.
