Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a recently recognized subtype of B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), which has unique clinical characteristics but is difficult to diagnose on histopathologic criteria. Recently, molecular analysis has shown that MCL has characteristic chromosomal translocation of t (11;14)(q13;q32), which results in bcl-1/JH rearrangement and cyclin D1 overexpression. We experienced a 61-year old woman with MCL, which had relapsed into cervical lymph node enlargement 4 years after complete remission. She again received combination chemotherapy but clinical course was waxed and waned without complete remission. After 3 years from first relapse, she died because of rapid disease progression with massive gastric infiltration and intraabdominal
lymphadenopathy. From the biopsy specimen of cervical lymph nodes we confirmed the bcl-1/JH rearrangement and cyclic Dl overexpression of the tumor by polymerase chain
reaction (PCR) and immunohistochemistry. This might be the first case report of MCL in Korea confirmed with bcl-1/JH gene rearrangement by PCR and cyclin D1 overexpression by immunohistochemistry.
